A great hour (and a bit) of football at Selhurst
68′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
It’s been a great start to the Premier League season this evening and there is still just over 20 minutes left of this one. The hosts have looked the more likely of the two sides in this second half but Arsenal – spearheaded by Jesus – look extremely dangerous on the counter attack.

Chaos in the Arsenal penalty area
63′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
Odegaard’s indecision at the other end was almost immediately punished. A very strange five-second period saw Gabriel bring the ball down in his box to appeals for a penalty from the home side before almost firing a miscued clearance beyond Ramsdale and into his own net. Luckily, his goalkeeper was, once again, alert to the possibility of losing his clean sheet.

Odegaard passes up brilliant chance to double lead
61′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
That was the game right there. Odegaard was presented with the perfect chance to effectively wrap up the game for the away side after more excellent work from Jesus. Although, the former Real Madrid midfielder chose to attempt another pass when he was far better placed to get a shot away.

Edouard replaced by Mateta
58′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
A thoroughly forgettable evening for Edouard is brought to an end by Vieira. The Palace manager has replaced him with Jean-Philippe Mateta in the first substitution of the match.

Odegaard whips free-kick narrowly wide
57′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
A typically direct Saka run brings yet another Arsenal free-kick. Just outside the penalty area on the right-hand side, it leant itself perfectly for a left-footed taker and captain Odegaard took the reponsibility.
His effort was a decent one but it flew wide of the target.

Palace should be level (again)!
52′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
The scoreline should certainly be level, for the second time since Arsenal took the lead. Somehow Odegaard finds himself in the right-back position and is caught out by Eze’s run in behind and Zaha’s perfect through ball.
Eze, with the freedom of the penalty area, should have done much better but was denied by the legs of Ramsdale. That’s the second time the Gunners number one has kept his side in front (see the above photo for the first time).

Palace straight onto the front foot
49′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
The hosts are clearly keen to ensure their hard work at the end of the first half doesn’t go to waste. A couple more impeccably-weighted long passes from Andersen pick out his attacking team mates but Arsenal are ultimately able to deal, relatively comfortably, with any potential danger.

Second half underway at Selhurst
46′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
We are underway for the second half in South London. Arsenal will be hoping to start as they did in the first half while the home side will want to pick up where they left off.

FPL bonus point update!
There is plenty of FPL-related interest in this one and, while Jesus has been exceptional so far, he is yet to get off the mark in terms of FPL points.
Two of his team mates are currently leading the way for the bonus points. Here are the players most likely to scoop up the extras at the halfway stage:
- Martinelli (21)
- Zinchenko (21)
- Andersen (16)
- Saliba (13)
- Gabriel (8)
- Guehi (8)
- Mitchell (8)

View from the Arsenal camp
Here is what our man in the ground (from an Arsenal point of view) has had to say after the opening 45 minutes. An intriguing game indeed!

HT #CPFC 0-1 #AFC. Arsenal started really brightly and Palace couldn’t live with them initially.
However, the home side improved in last part of the half. Better organisation and quicker to ball. Intriguing game!

Half-time at Selhurst Park
HT Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
A great first half is brought to an end by Taylor. Arteta’s side were, by far, the better side in that 45-minute period but they had to weather a bit of a Crystal Palace storm at the very end of the half.

Xhaka booked for diving
45′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
New season and seemingly a new Xhaka. A booking is hardly a rarity for the ex-captain but a yellow for diving, that must be a first!
It is great refereeing from Taylor as Xhaka had clearly not been touched before going to ground.

Ramsdale to the rescue for Arsenal
43′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
What was I just saying about Crystal Palace’s foothold? They should really be level.
Ramsdale saves the day for the visitors as he keeps out Odsonne Edouard’s close-range header after the former Celtic striker was perfectly picked out by Andersen. It wouldn’t have been deserved in the slightest but that chance should’ve brought an equaliser.

Crystal Palace seeking a foothold
41′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
For the first time in the opening 40 minutes, Palace are finding their feet in this game. The raking cross-field switches from Joachim Andersen have played a huge role in that as they continue to be plucked out of the air by Zaha.
The Danish defender’s influence on this match is a brilliant indication of how the role of the centre-back has changed in the last few years.

Sealed with a kiss
36′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
Martinelli owed his team mates, his manager and the Arsenal fans a goal after his earlier glaring miss. He couldn’t have asked for a much better opportunity to do that and he duly made amends.
Meanwhile, the home supporters want a penalty for a Gabriel handball but the replays show the Gunners centre-back knew nothing about it.

Ramsdale taking risks at the back
32′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
On one of the All or Nothing episodes released this week from last season at Arsenal, Aaron Ramsdale’s dad mentioned being nervous whenever his son has the ball at his feet. His nerves certainly won’t have been eased this evening as a couple of shaky moments from the England goalkeeper have allowed the otherwise quiet home supporters to build some noise.

Palace can’t escape relentless Arsenal
28′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
For all the praise that Arsenal will rightly receive for this opening half an hour, it feels as though they are playing lower-league opposition in a cup tie. Palace have been bullied all over the pitch and Vieira will be desperate for them to improve as the game goes on against his former side.

Gunners looking to press home advantage
24′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
This has been excellent from an Arsenal perspective already tonight, not so much from a Crystal Palace one. To say the opening goal from Martinelli was coming would be a huge understatement.
The visitors seem hungry to add to their one-goal advantage and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them double their lead before half-time.

Martinelli heads Arsenal in front!
20′ Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
A rehearsed corner kick routine is headed back into the danger area by Zinchenko and Martinelli makes amends for his earlier miss by glancing a header beyond Guaita. We have lift off for the 22/23 Premier League campaign!

Catch him if you can!
14′ Crystal Palace 0-0 Arsenal
It’s been an electric start to this new Premier League campaign by Arsenal. There’s a brief pause as Granit Xhaka is tended to by the referee after copping a ball to the head.
Jesus has looked frighteningly sharp on debut. No wonder he is owned by so many FPL managers!
